Unable to defeat the Guru in a direct confrontation, Wazir Khan—the Mughal Governor of Sirhind—deceitfully dispatched two soldiers, Jamshed Khan and Wasil Beg, to infiltrate the Guru's camp. Posing as attendants—even bringing *Karah Prasad* (a sacred offering) to avoid suspicion—they gained access to the Guru's private quarters. While the Guru was resting, they attacked him with their daggers; however, Guru Ji instantly struck down one attacker, while the other was killed by the attendants.
Following the attack on Guru Ji, the most skilled team of doctors and surgeons serving the then Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Ist, treated him. Later, a king gifted him a massive and beautiful bow; while attempting to string it, the immense physical exertion caused his surgical stitches to reopen, resulting in severe blood loss.
Realizing that the time to depart from his earthly body was near, Guru Ji performed a circumambulation and bowed before the *Adi Granth*, offering a five-paisa coin and a coconut. He bestowed the title of the living Guru of the Sikhs—"Guru Granth Sahib"—upon the scripture and decreed that there would be no further human Gurus; he commanded all Sikhs to accept only *Guru Granth Sahib Ji* as their Guru.
