Instead it is an untold story that quietly reveals itself- in the morning, on the empty road trails, and in the eyes of strangers who offer you fish curry like you're family. This isn't a checklist. It's a love letter to the corners that waited for me to arrive.

I reached Gandikota before the sun had fully set or darkness fell. This is a lesser-known corner of Andhra Pradesh that doesn't attract as much attention as India's famous landmarks—but perhaps that is precisely its charm. You don't truly hear about it until you stand at the edge of the gorge, gazing at a magnificent valley that makes your own worries seem insignificant. Through this blog, I want to introduce visitors to this serene and unique, lesser-known destination; I hope you enjoy this effort.
After a long, exhausting drive from Hyderabad, I was ready to see what the hype was all about. Instead, I discovered the Pennar River flowing ceaselessly through miles of red granite—a sight of unparalleled beauty that felt almost otherworldly. The ruins of the old fort atop the gorge stood like silent sentinels.
While taking a leisurely stroll, I sat near the old Jama Masjid as the morning sky turned shades of pink and amber. There was hardly any noise around me—just a gentle breeze, the occasional call of a peacock, and the vast expanse of the valley stretching into the distance. No crowds, no rush—just a peaceful realization that I had arrived at a place that remains largely undiscovered. It is a place people ought to know about, so they have a new travel option, the local tourism industry can flourish, and the local community can find good employment opportunities.

I stopped for a simple local meal and, while savoring the food, watched the shifting light across the coast. There was nothing ostentatious about the setting—just an unpretentious spot, an ordinary chair, a memorable meal, and a quiet, simple beauty—yet perhaps that is precisely what made the experience feel so authentic.

I bypassed the crowded spots and set out on a trek towards Half Moon Beach and Paradise Beach. The coastal trails wound through palm groves and rocky terrain, opening up to beautiful stretches of sand where swings swayed and simple beach shacks served unpretentious meals.
Upon returning to the town, the Mahabaleshwar Temple radiated a completely different, positive energy. During the evening aarti, the sounds of bells, mantras, and temple rituals resonated through the air.
A wandering *sadhu* glanced at me and smiled, as if he could perceive and understand my restlessness. Perhaps he could.
I stayed longer than planned, strolling along the coastal paths at dawn and letting Gokarna’s varied moods—spiritual, coastal, and quietly adventurous—sink deeper into my memories before moving on.

The climb was demanding, with steep sections that left my calves burning, but reaching the natural rock formation was worth the effort. Inside, ancient rock engravings and carvings offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives and imagination of people from the distant past.
Rather than putting a single exact age on every carving, it's safer to say that the engravings are prehistoric and date back thousands of years, with their exact chronology and interpretation continuing to be studied.

Winter found me in Lambasingi, a hill station in the Eastern Ghats that is popularly known as the “Kashmir of the South India.”
The nickname comes from its unusually cool winter climate, especially compared with much of tropical Andhra Pradesh. On particularly cold mornings, temperatures can fall close to freezing, creating a landscape that feels surprisingly different from the India most travellers imagine.
I woke before sunrise, wrapped in layers against the chill, and watched the mist slowly lift from the surrounding hills. Later, beneath a clear night sky, the stars seemed impossibly bright.
For a while, it was easy to forget that I was still in South India.

Hogenakkal was next—where the Kaveri River tumbles dramatically over rocky formations, filling the air with spray and mist. The sight helps explain the area's famous nickname, often translated as “smoking rocks.”
I climbed into a traditional coracle and let the boatman guide me along the river, close enough to feel the force of the water without losing sight of the surrounding cliffs.
The roar of the falls seemed to vibrate through my ribs, while the spray hung in the air like smoke.
Along the banks, local food stalls offered freshly prepared fish, adding another sensory layer to the experience. I ate it hot, probably burning my fingers in the process, and felt like the luckiest fool on earth.
